Clubs and Activities

The PTP sponsors two book fairs each year.  (Sometimes they add a third smaller sale.) These book fairs give our students the opportunity to purchase appropriate books that they can own.  It also helps the PTP raise funds for school projects.  Your support of the book fairs is appreciated.

Every November, in honor of Education Week, Ross students and their families are invited to spend a fun-filled, educational evening at school  

There is a different theme each year. Recent themes have centered around: knights, space, the movies, music of the past, the USA, and more.

All students spend time outside for field day participating in various fun physical activities.  Often the activities include: a class vs class tug-of-war, sack races, the crab crawl race, 50 yard dash, the popular "shoe kick" (who can kick off their shoe and send it the furthest distance), the javelin (foam noodle) throw, the hula hoop competition and more.

Students have a great time and always look forward to next year's field day!

Students participate in numerous fieldtrips through out the school year.  Fieldtrips are educationally based and are beneficial to the student by providing more insight into their learning as well as new life experiences.

Fieldtrips are selected to supplement the curriculum.

Girls on the Run is so much FUN!

Girls on the Run is a place where girls learn that they “can”.    

No limits. No constraints. Only opportunities to be remarkable. Twice a week for 10 weeks, your girl will learn that her worth comes from within, that healthy relationships matter and that she can have an impact on the world around her. At the end of the season, she will be emotionally and physically prepared to complete a 5k event.

Students who meet certain academic criteria (see below) in the fourth and fifth grades will be invited to participate in the Ross Chapter of The National Elementary Honor Society.

An average of 3.5 or higher is required in writing.  This average is based on the cumulative average from the previous school year and the first semester of the current school year.

If the student receives a discipline write-up from the school or the bus he/she will not be eligible for selection during that school year.

If students meet the minimum requirements, they will be encouraged to fill out an application form that will list how the student has shown leadership, service, scholarship and responsibility.

Once students turn in the packet, a committee will then select those who demonstrate these qualities.

Morning announcements come over the intercom each morning at Ross, but on Fridays we have a special treat! Honor Society students do a live newscast that is broadcast to each classroom on their TV.  They are joined by select staff members who give further updates on our progress at Ross.

Features included in the live broadcast are:
Accomplishments of the past week, Up-coming events, Discipline data, the weekend birthday children, information and demonstrations pertinent to the events of the school, and special guests.

OotM is a creative problem-solving competition for students of all ages. 

Teams of up to 7 students from grades 1-5 create a solution; then present their solution in a state wide competition. Contact person is Karen Fitzpatrick at kfitzpat@msd.k12.de.us  More information will be sent via Talking Points at a later date. 

 

 

 

 

 

Fifth grade students are selected to be members of the Ross PAW Patrol. These students assist with maintaining safety and helping students follow the school rules. They are stationed in the halls before and after school reminding students about having PAW power and making good choices.

Project Unify invites students of all abilities to work together on a special unifying project.  Many of the projects are in support of special themes or events.  

Following our fully inclusive practices for all individuals in our school, Lulu Ross would like to bring further awareness to the Lulu Ross students, as well as all other individuals in our communities experiencing differences.  We plan to do this by joining together and having meetings centered on raising further awareness and acceptance of individuals with disabilities.  Our Project Unify Club will meet throughout the year, and the great thing is, your child can participate one time or every time we have a meeting! In addition, we also raise money for Special Olympics Delaware through the Polar Bear Plunge and participate in RESPECT Week activities. To complete our mission of inclusion and acceptance, WE NEED YOUR HELP!!  We would love to have participation across grades 3-5 and with students of all abilities. Every Spring the PTP and Ross Staff host a carnival for students, families, and community members.  There are games, raffles, activities, and food. Everyone has a great time!  Be sure to join us!

One student is selected from each class every month.  These students are recognized for the effort they make in their daily school activities.

Pictures of the Ross Cats are displayed in the lobby show case and they each receive a certificate showing they have earned the honor of being named a "Ross Cat"!

Lulu Ross students participate in Special Olympics each year. It is a program that works on developing functional communication and life skills, as well as good citizenship, manners, and a sense of community. Here at Ross, we participate in two sports, bocce and soccer.

Special Olympics bocce and soccer opportunities are inclusive to student athletes and partners with all abilities and exceptionalities. Special Olympics a fabulous opportunity to have members of our school community open their hearts and minds to those with different abilities, while forming new friendships and learning the appropriate skills of playing a sport. Special Olympics participation is one of the many activities that is included in Lulu Ross’ Unified Champion School programming. Each year the best spellers from each fourth and fifth grade class compete to become the top Ross spellers.  Ross winners than compete to become the District spelling champions.

Annually, the Student Council and National Elementary Honor Society team up with the PTP to hold a food drive for Thanksgiving.  Ross families are always generous in donating canned and boxed goods. We are usually able to give boxes for food to approximately 30 Ross families that can use the extra help.

Each fall the Ross students and staff participate in our annual walkathon.  This is a good way for us to join one another in our goal of exercising and staying fit, as well as a way to earn money for our PTP. 

Ross is proud to have a walking trail right on our school property!
